Tenormin

Common uses

Tenormin is prescribed to patients with chest pain and high blood pressure. It acts by preventing heart attacks, strokes and kidney disease. It can be also prescribed to treat some other medical conditions.

Before using

Do not start or stop taking Tenormin without your doctor approval. Follow the directions provided by your doctor. Notify your medical specialist of using any other prescription and over-the-counter drugs (mibefradil, clonidine, amiodarone, doxazosin, indomethacin, pseudoephedrine, disopyramide, quinidine, mefloquine, verapamil or any medicines for diabetes). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions. You may need special monitoring of your body if you ever experienced asthma, overactive thyroid problems, angina, congestive heart failure, allergies, heart block, low blood pressure or lung problems. Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Ask your doctor for details of using this medicine.

Directions

Take Tenormin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You can take Tenormin with or without food. It is recommended to take this medicine at the same time every day. This medicine should be stored in cool and dark place at a room temperature. If you missed your regular dose wait for the next scheduled time to take tablet. Do not double-up your regular dose. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor.

Cautions

Warning for women: Tenormin has been reported to affect human fetus. Consult to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Do not take this medicine if you are breast-feeding. Tenormin passes into breast milk and affects newborn baby. Do not take this medicine without your doctor approval. You may need additional monitoring of your body if you have diabetes mellitus. It is recommended to check glucose level in your blood regularly. Some patients can experience allergic reaction to this medicine. Do not stop using Tenormin without your doctor approval to avoid undesirable side effects. Using this medicine sometimes can result in increased sensitivity to the cold. Notify your medical specialist of using Tenormin before having allergy shots. Do not take any other medicines during treatment without your doctor approval.

Possible side effects

Contact to your medical specialist or apply for emergency care if you experience any of the side effects listed below:

• dizziness
• nausea
• lightheadedness
• drowsiness
• diarrhea
• unusual weakness or tiredness
• urination problems
• difficulty breathing
• weight gain
• cough
• increased thirst
• fainting
• sexual problems
• swelling of ankles of feet
• allergic reaction

If you take too much

Overdose may cause severe dizziness, unusual weakness, difficulty breathing or slow heart rate. Get immediate medical care if you have taken more than prescribed quantity of this medicine.

Additional information

Contact your doctor if you experienced changes in your blood pressure. Make sure to check your blood pressure regularly if directed by your medical specialist. Special diet and exercise program can help to reduce blood pressure. Keep this drug away from the reach of children and pets. Do not give this medicine to others whom it was not prescribed.
