Crestor

Crestor is HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor used to treat atherosclerosis by reducing the level of cholesterol in blood. Rosuvastatin is also prescribed for prevention of certain medical conditions, including chest pain, heart attacks, heart desease, atc. It works by increasing supply of oxygen to your heart, preventing the process of harmful cholesterol accumulation. Rosuvastin can be also prescribed to treat other medical conditions.

How should this medicine be used?

Crestor can be taken on empty stomach or with food. Do not increase your regular dose. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor. Do not start or stop using Crestor without doctor's approval. Usual dosing of this medicine is once daily. The whole treatment usually lasts for about 4 weeks.

What special precautions should I follow?

Notify your medical specialist of using any other prescription or over-the-counter medicals (Nizoral, Niaspan, Niacor, Lopid, Neoral, Sandimmune, Coumadin, Tricor, Tagamet). Inform your doctor of having experienced allergic reaction on any ingridients of Crestor. Avoid drinking alcohol while using this medicine. Taking Crestor with alcoholic beverages may lead to serious side effects. Notify your doctor of having any medical conditions including low blood pressure, seizures, heart attack, kidney disease, liver disease, a stroke, thyroid disease, diabetes, pregnancy or breast-feeding. Inform your medical specialist of using Crestor before some medical treatments (dental treatment, emergency treatment or surgery).

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Low-fat diet is recommended while using Crestor. Try to avoid excess fat food: lard, cottage cheese, meat, butter, cookies and cakes, chocolate, peanut butter, potato chips, fried foods.It is recommended to include to your dietary following low-cholesterol products: egg whites, paultry, fat-free milk, cottage cheese, fish, vegetables, egg whites, margarines and polyunsaturated oils.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

If you missed your regular dose, wait for the next scheduled time to take tablet. Do not take two doses at once. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Cosult your medical specialist if you experience such side effects as unusual weakness, constipation, dizziness, upset stomach, difficulty sleeping, diarrhea, cough, heartburn, depression or joint pain. Call your doctor if you have experienced swelling of feet, hands or ankles, urination problems, fever and flu-like symptoms, sore throat, muscle pain, yellowing of eyes or skin, sinus infection, rash or chest pain.

What storage conditions are needed for this medicine?

This medicine should be stored in cool and dry places at a room temperature in tightly closed container. Keep this medicine away from moisture, do not store it in the bathroom.
