Zocor

Common uses

Zocor helps to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood in adults. Sometimes it may be prescribed to patients at the age of 10-17 years. Using this medicine blocks certain enzyme in your body and makes it to produce less cholesterol. Zocor may be prescribed for other conditions treatment.

It is not recommended to combine Zocor with other medicines in order to avoid undesired circumstances. Do not take Zocor with the following drugs:

• nefazodone
• lopinavir
• ketoconazole
• erythromycin
• clarithromycin
• nelfinavir
• ritonavir

Notify your doctor of taking any other prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Inform your doctor of having experienced health problems like allergies, alcohol use, uncontrolled seizures, endocrine problems, severe infections, hypertension, kidney disease or muscle problems. It is not recommended to take Zocor without doctor approval. Talk to your doctor if you are nursing newborn in order to avoid unexpected consequences.

Zocor may be taken with or without food. Use Zocor exactly as directed by your medical specialist. Do not stop or start taking this medicine without your doctor approval. It is recommended not to drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit during Zocor treatment. This medicine should be stored in dark cool place at a room temperature. Try to take your dose of Zocor at the same time daily. This will increase the effect of treatment. If you missed your regular dose wait for the next scheduled time to take tablet. Do not take two doses at once. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor.

Notify your medical specialist of taking Zocor before having surgery, emergency care, dental treatments and some other medical treatment. You may need to pass some additional tests (blood cholesterol level, liver function tests, muscle tests, etc.). Discuss with your doctor all the possible risks of drinking alcohol during Zocor treatment.

Warning for women: Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or nursing baby. Zocor may affect fetus and newborn baby. Ingredients of Zocor may pass into breast milk and result in death of newborn.

Contact to your medical specialist or apply for emergency help if any of side effects listed below took place.

• diarrhea
• stomach upset
• constipation
• weakness
• fever
• yellowing of skin and eyes
• nausea
• vomiting
• unusual bleeding

If you take too much.

Apply for emergency help in your local poison control center in case if overdose occurred.

Contact your medical specialist if this medicine doesn't work. Keep low-fat diet during Zocor treatment. Do not give your medicine to someone else whom it was not prescribed. Keep this drug away from children and pets.
