Nexium

Drug Uses

Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor class medication prescribed to patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also prescribed to patients with stomach ulcers symptoms. This medicine works by healing esophagus after it was damaged by backward flow of acid from the stomach.

How Taken

Nexium should be taken according to directions of medical specialist. Usually it is taken once daily. This medicine comes in form of long-acting capsule, which should be taken orally. Do not crush or chew the capsules. Nexium capsules should be taken whole.

Warnings/Precautions

Notify your doctor of any other medical conditions (liver disease, history of penicillin hypersensitivity). Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Nexium is not approved to be absolutely safe for newborn. Do not use this medicine without your doctor approval. Inform your doctor of using any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs. You may need additional monitoring of your body during treatment.

Missed Dose

If you missed your regular dose wait for the next scheduled time to take tablet. Do not take two doses at once. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist or apply for emergency care in case of any side effects appearing during treatment. Taking this medicine sometimes may cause:

• headache
• diarrhea
• cough
• stomach pain
• chest pain
• throat pain
• vomiting
• itching
• rush
• dizziness
• difficulty breathing
• swelling

Storage

Nexium should be stored in tightly closed container at a room temperature below 86°F.

Overdose

Overdose may cause rapid difficulty breathing, loss of coordination, seizures and drowsiness. Apply for emergency care or contact your medical specialist if overdose occurred.
