Zyban

Common uses

Zyban is used by smoking quitters to give up smoking.

Before using

Notify your doctor of using any other prescription and over-the-counter drugs (MAOI, bupropion, thioridazine, high blood pressure medicines, psychiatric medicines, antidepressants, seizure medicines, narcotic pain relievers, quinolone antibiotics, tranquilizers, tramadol, etc.) Inform your medical specialist if you already use any products containing nicotine. Notify your doctor of any other medical conditions (seizures, muscle conditions, nerve conditions, eating disorders, etc.) Ask your doctor for details of using Zyban. Discuss with your medical specialist the consequences of drug-alcohol interactions.

Warning for children and teen-agers: Zyban should be used with extreme accuracy in children and teen-agers. It is recommended to use this medicine carefully in children and teen-agers, which have experienced mood or mental disorders and severe depression. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any side effects from using Zyban (sudden changes in behavior, thoughts of hurting themselves, suicidal thoughts, unusual mood changes).

Directions

Read patient information leaflet carefully. Zyban tablet should be taken whole. Do not chew or crush it. Follow the directions provided by your medical specialist. This medicine should be stored in cool and dry place at a room temperature. If you missed your regular dose wait for the next scheduled time to take tablet. Do not double-up your regular dose. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor.

Cautions

Usually treatment lasts more than a week. You need to quit smoking during the second week of treatment. Do not start or stop using Zyban without your doctor approval. Call your doctor if during treatment you experience impulsive feelings, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, agitation or difficulty sleeping. Parents or caregivers of the patient should monitor his condition constantly. Using Zyban may affect ability to drive or perform any other hazardous activities. Sometimes using Zyban may cause dizziness. Check with your medical specialist if you take any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs. Children and adults are reported to be more sensitive to Zyban. It is recommended to lessen the amount of alcoholic drinks to avid undesirable consequences. Do not use this medicine without your doctor approval if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Zyban can pass to breast mild and affect newborn. Discuss with your doctor possible risks of using this medicine during pregnancy.

If you take too much

Overdose may result in loss of consciousness, hallucinations, vision changes, lightheadedness and seizures. Apply for emergency help in your local poison control center in case if overdose intake occurred.

Additional information

Contact your medical specialist if this medicine doesn't work. Do not give your medicine to someone else. Keep this drug away from children and pets.
