Synthroid

Synthroid is used for hypothyroidism treatment. Sometimes it is prescribed to treat some other medical conditions.

Do not take this medicine together with other prescription and over-the-counter medicals in order to avoid undesired consequences. Avoid taking Synthroid together with diet pills, warfarin, digoxin, amiodarone, high dose salicylates, Phenobarbital, lithium, iodide, diabetes medicines, antidepressants, beta-blocker, ketamine, growth blockers and treophylline. Notify your medical specialist of having experienced any serious medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension, arrhythmias, blood clots, allergies, heart attack, adrenal gland problems or thyroid condition. You may need to pass additional testing before your doctor prescribes you exact dosage and frequency of intake which is optimal for you. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Take Synthroid before or after having meals. It is more effective if drug is taken each day at the same time. This helps your body to keep constant medicine concentration. This medicine should be taken on empty stomach. The best time of taking Synthroid is 1 hour before breakfast. Infants should take this medicine crushed and mixed with pure water. Take mixed medicine immediately. Take this medicine separately from some certain drugs including sucralfate, colestipol, simethicone, cholestyramine, antacids, iron and calcium supplements. If you missed your regular dose wait for the next scheduled time to take tablet. Do not take two doses at once. Follow the dosing and intake frequency exactly under the prescription of your doctor.

Cautions

Do not start or stop taking Synthroid without your doctor approval. Your doctor prescribes you optimal dose. Elder patients have more chances to suffer from side effects. You may feel some symptoms after you just have started taking this medicine. You may experience dry skin, sensitivity to cold, muscle aches, fatigue or slow heart rate. Some time later after your body adjusts to this medicine these symptoms will disappear.

Consult to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist in case of any side effects appearing during Synthroid treatment. Taking this medicine sometimes may cause:

• headache
• trembling
• changes in appetite
• diarrhea
• nervousness
• insomnia
• chest pain
• allergic reaction
• difficulty breathing
• seizure
• rash
• hives
• swelling of eyelids, lips or face
• tightness of chest

Get immediate medical care if you have taken more than prescribed quantity of this medicine. Overdosed Synthroid may cause nervousness, seizures, chest pain and excessive sweating.

Contact your medical specialist if this medicine doesn't work. Do not give your medicine to someone else. Keep this drug away from children and pets.
