Fosamax

Fosamax is prescribed to prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. It acts by increasing bone mass. It may also be used to treat osteoporosis in men. Average daily dose is 7.5 mg and lower depending on personal density to core ingridient of this medicine.

How Taken

Fosamax is usually taken once daily. This medicine should be used on empty stomach. Take a tablet washed up with full glass of pure water (never wash up Fosamax with milk, juice, tea or coffee). Take Fosamax in half an hour before meals. Try to sit upright or stand after taking this medicine. This can help you to increase the effect.

Warning/Precautions

Notify your doctor of having special medic conditions, including esophageal disease, kidney disease, stomach problems and other conditions. Your doctor will prescribe to you special dosing and treatment period suitable for you.

Warning for women: Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or nursing baby. It is not approved that this drug is absolutely safe for human fetus. Fosamax may affect newborn baby. Components of Fosamax exceed in breast milk and may affect newborn.

Consult a doctor or pharmacist about possible risks.

Do not double-up if you missed your daily dose. Take your dose as soon as you remember if you take Fosamax once weekly. Do not take 2 doses at once. Try not to miss your regular dose.

Consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist in case of any side effects appearing during Fosamax treatment. Taking this medicine sometimes may cause:

• allergy
• difficulty swallowing
• worsening heartburn
• stomach upset
• vomiting
• nausea
• diarrhea
• headache
• joint pain
• rash
• constipation

Fosamax should be stored in tightly closed container at a temperature below 30°C/86°F .

Overdose

Paxil overdose may cause upset stomach, esophagitis, ulcer and upset stomach. Apply for emergency care or contact your medical specialist if overdose occurred.

More Information

Smoking, drinking alcohol and taking antacids have been reported to decrease the effects of this medicine. Do not take Fosamax with other medicines without your doctor approval.
